Husband of 1)Persis Bemis and 2) Nancy Dunbar. Father of Benjamin (mother Persis) and 9 other children by Nancy: Charles, Amasa Jr., Persis, Sarah and Lucretia (twins), Danforth,Foster, Dexter,and Lucy. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier and his family received Bounty land in Wisconsin for his service:
See D.A.R. national No. 440598. He was a revolutionary soldier, Private, Capt. John Woolcott's Co. of Rangers, which marched on the alarm of April 19. 1775, from Brookfield and Spencer, sevice, 12 days. ** taken from Massachusetts Sailors and Soldiers in the War of the Revolution, Vol. 1, p. 929. Also: p. 932: Bemos, Amasa, Capt. John Cowls' Co. Col. Benjamin Ruggles Woodbridge's regt.; order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money, dated Cambridge, Dec. 23, 1775. Also: p. 924 : Bemis, Amasa, Spencer. Private, Capt. Cowl's Co., Col. Woodbridge's regt.; company return (probably Oct., 1775); Also: p. 924 Sargeant, Capt. Ralph Earll's Co., Col. Danforth Keyes's regt; enlisted July 9, 1777; discharged Jan. 3, 1778; service 5 mo., 25 days. Roll dated Providence.
The will of Amasa Bemis was written on 10-7-1842, witnessed by James Draper, Lewis Bemis, and Dennis Ward and proved on Jan. 1, 1843. It can be found in the Worcester County Registry of Probate Series A: Docket 4799, Record book 86, pp. 187-192. It can also be found at the Registry of Probate on microfilm 0856347 by the Genealogical Society of Salt Lake City made on May 19, 1971. There are sixteen clauses, many of them containing parcels of land, mainly for his son Dexter. Named in the will are his wife Nancy, sons Benjamin, [deceased], Danforth, Foster, and Dexter; daughters Sarah Kingsbury [7th clause] and Lucretia White; grandchildren [children of the deceased son, Benjamin, Nancy Sampson, Catherine Sabin, Caroline Trask, and Abeny [?] Clark; grandchildren [children of deceased son, Amasa Jr.] Persis Bullard, Chandler, Joshua, Edwin, and Lorenzo Bemis. Also the children of deceased son Charles, although not by name.

By this will he says: " I further give and bequeath to my said wife, Nancy Bemis, good and sufficient meats, drinks, clothing, lodging, nursing and doctoring; also good and sufficient fire wood furnished and brought into her house at all times suitable for her fire places as she may choose, and in fine to have an be provided with everything she may need and her situation require both in sickness and health for her comfort and convenience so that she may be able to support her rank and standing in society and she has hitherto done while living with me and all this to be done and provided for her by the said Dexter Bemis, my son, during her natural life."

He wills also that " my body is to be placed in the family tomb on my original home farm in Spencer, and I hereby expressly reserve said tomb for a common family tomb with a strip of land two rods in width all around said tomb, and the privilege of passing and repassing thereto at all times. Said tomb to be the common property and for the common use as a burial place for myself and family for said Foster and Dexter Bemis and their families if they should choose."

[Tower:V1:121] Amasa Bemis, Sr. died Nov. 21, 1842, aged eighty-five, and his body was placed in the tomb at the old homestead as per his will, but Dexter and Amasa, his sons, concluding to remove to Wisconsin, removed the body to the old cemetery between 1853 and 1855. There was never any other occupant of the tomb except a child named Rawlings, who was placed there temporarily one winter.
