William S Carter was born in Devonshire England in the year 1866 to Robert Carter and Diana Siderfin. They were the parents of four boys, William was educated in schools in England, worked on his fathers and other farms to earn money and headed to California in 1893. William engaged in sheep-raising on land some 10 miles north-east of Wheatland. In 1910 William married Ida Ellen Jones Hall after her husband John died in the early 1900's. Ida had rwo daughters with Mr Hall. When Ida died in 1923 William then married the widow of Joseph McDevitt, Almeda E Kuster McDevitt, she had a son named Thomas McDevitt when William married her in 1924. Just a couple years later William passed away. No children were born to William that I was able to find, Almeda and Thomas stayed on the ranch in Wheatland and raised poultry and had a stock farm.
