Joyce Phillips Ellis, age 91 of Loudon, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the Parkwest Medical Center. Joyce was born to the late Henry and Sarah (Chapman) Dotson on April 28, 1930, in Phelps, Kentucky. While attending college in Kentucky she met her soon-to-be husband, Orion Phillips. They married and started their family and were blessed with seven children. They worked together for many years, he as a principal and she as a teacher of an elementary school in Phelps, Kentucky until his unexpected passing in 1960. Joyce worked hard raising her 7 children. In 1973 she and her five youngest children relocated to East Tennessee where she remained dedicated to her family. Joyce was a member of the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She spent many years as a caregiver helping numerous families in the Loudon community. Joyce had a kind, patient, and gentle spirit. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, but mostly she loved spending time with her precious family.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sarah (Chapman) Dotson; husband, Orion Phillips; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Compton; brothers, George Dotson, Estil Dotson; sisters, Betty Slone and Evelyn Schwartz. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Debra Phillips, Marcus Phillips and Tia Finney; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and A.J. Phillips, Paige and Don Woosley, Paula and Chinie Smallen, Gwen and Mike Watson; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, June Zettler; several nieces and nephews.

Services to honor and remember Joyce will be held 1 PM Saturday, March 26th at the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Hester officiating. Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 373, Loudon, Tennessee 37774 or the American Cancer Society, 871 N Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37909. The family will receive friends following the service at the church until 3 PM.
