Faye Harvey Smith, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Hospice Home at High Point and went immediately into the presence of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
She was born January 15, 1942 in Raleigh, the sixth and youngest child of the late Joe and Myrtle Harvey. She is survived by her only child, daughter Sonja S. Beach (Tracy) of Jamestown, NC; her niece, Judy Smith, her nephew, Robert Barbour; her her sweet cat, Krissy, who has been a devoted and loving companion to her for the past six years; and a beloved extended family.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at1:00 PM, at The Capital Church, 1308 US 70 West, Garner, NC 27529. Burial will follow Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27601. The family will receive friends at the church from 12-12:50PM, prior to the service.
She is predeceased by her parents; brothers Graham, Richard, and Herman Harvey; sisters Laura Robertson and Jean Barbour; her husband, Louis H. Smith; and several cherished members of her extended family.
Faye grew up in Raleigh and graduated in 1961 from Needham B. Broughton High School. The majority of her working years were spent at W. H. King Drug Co. (later renamed T C Smith Co.). She retired from NCSU's University Dining Services at age 65. At age 69, she moved to Greensboro, NC to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She remained in Greensboro until her death.
Faye made friends easily and enjoyed talking to people. Everyone who knew her thought a lot of her. She had a tender heart and supported a number of charities regularly on her fixed income. Her favorite charities were those that help animals. She loved living creatures of all kinds, but cats especially. She never saw a stray animal she didn't want to (or try to) take in and feed.
Faye enjoyed reading, watching old movies and classic TV shows. She had an extensive collection of movies that she enjoyed over and over, and she was a whiz at remembering actors and their roles. She also had a keen interest in historic homes. She loved the beautiful scenery of both the coast and the mountains, and was a prolific sender of cards.
Faye's faith was of primary importance to her. Shortly after her husband's death in 1990, she was invited to The Capital Church by Billy and Shirley Roberson on Friend Day. She rededicated her life to the Lord and faithfully attended there until she moved to Greensboro in 2011. Billy and Shirley were special friends, giving her a ride to church every week and taking her to lunch afterwards. After she moved, they still kept in touch in meaningful ways. Faye loved her Sunday school class; the pastors who ministered to her at Capital; the choir; and especially the sacred hymns. In Greensboro, she attended First Baptist Church. Most of all, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was faithful in studying her Bible, having daily quiet time, and supporting the church through her tithes. Her soul is eternally with her precious Lord, but she lives on in the hearts of her friends and family. On behalf of the family, thank you for your many kindnesses to us and to her. Each thing is appreciated more than you will ever know.
