Bob was born in Springfield, MA, on January 5, 1936, son of the late John F. and Margaret A. (Shiel) Phillips. He was a graduate of Springfield's Cathedral High School and the University of Massachusetts. He served our country with the U.S. Army. Bob married the love of his life and his greatest friend, Betty in 1960. Together they raised three children.
He spent his entire career at Aetna Life & Casualty at several locations, including Bridgeport CT, Minneapolis MN (where he met Betty), Milwaukee and Madison WI, and Cleveland OH. He served for many years at the home office in Hartford CT as Vice President of Human Resources and Vice President of Personal Insurance.
Bob enjoyed traveling with Betty, golf (where he was often heard exclaiming "I despise this game!"), biking, swimming, walking, reading, especially American History. In his earlier days he enjoyed cross-country skiing. His greatest interest by far was his family.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 10-11 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.
