Port St. Lucie - Constance E. Brown (Connie), 93, of Port St. Lucie was born on November 11,1928 and passed away peacefully on March 11, 2022, surrounded by family.

Connie was born in Elmer, NJ to Leroy and Ida Conaway. She was the oldest of 2 children, and was raised in Wilmington, DE. She graduated from high school and attended vocational school where she studied textiles. Connie worked as a seamstress prior to her marriage to Edward F. McCloskey, Sr and becoming a mother of six children. She cherished her role as a homemaker, raising her family, and attending the Church of Nativity in New Castle, DE. At a time when women did not traditionally hold leadership positions, Connie served as a lay-reader, Junior and Senior Warden and Vestry member and headed the Altar Guild.

After the passing of Edward McCloskey in 1971, Connie met Ronald C. Brown in New Castle, DE and the two were married in 1976. They spent many years traveling across the country to visit family and friends, as well as taking cruises all over the world.

Since moving to Florida in 1990, Connie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Port St. Lucie where she served as President of the Missions Board as well as on the Board of Trustees. She was devoted to her church, family, and friends. She loved writing cards to everyone she knew to celebrate the birthdays, anniversaries, get-well wishes and sometimes just to let someone know she was thinking of them. Connie saved every card she ever received from anyone. Connie enjoyed reading (especially poetry), crocheting and other sewing projects, playing the organ, shopping for special gifts for whomever, and just spending time with family.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda M. DeMaio in 2010, sons Patrick B. McCloskey in 2020 and Edward F. McCloskey, Jr. in 2021, her husband, Ronald C. Brown in Aug of 2021, and her parents Leroy and Ida Conaway and brother, Leroy (Buddy) E Conaway many years ago.

She is survived by her children: John A. McCloskey (spouse Rhea) of Corbin KY, Leslie A. (McCloskey) Stramel (spouse Daniel) of McCook, NE, and Michael T. McCloskey of Smyrna, DE; two step-daughters: Cheryl L. Brown of Bear, DE and Michelle S. (Brown) Zenorini of New Castle, DE; Diane McCloskey of Clearwater, FL (Daughter-in-law, spouse of deceased son Edward F. McCloskey), 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life at St. James Episcopal Church, 2 S Augustine St. Newport, Delaware – April 2, 2022, at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. James Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 2 S Augustine St., Newport, DE, in the name of Connie E. Brown.
