George Dunn Chambers was the son of Howard Chambers (1883-1962) and Elizabeth Mary (Beer) Chambers 1885-1968), of Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada. George was born on June 7, 1914 in Lyons Brook, Pictou Co., NS. George was the brother of Annie, Catherine, Lorraine, and Fred. His father served during WWI enlisting at Pictou, NS with the 193th Battalion and serving in the No. 6 Detachment Canadian Military Police Corps

Prior to his enlistment he was living in Whyalla, South Australia and employed as a labourer with the Blast Furtherance Camp at Whyalla as a ball mill operator. He completed his military medical on October 20, 1941 and began his service on January 31, 1941.
Between March 4, 1942 and July 16, 1942 he served with the Provost Corps and was appointed Acting Corporal from April 10, 1942 until May 28, 1942 when he reverted to the rank of Private. He was then taken on strength with the 3 T. Battalion on July 16, 1942. He embarked Sydney on the SS Katoomba at Sydney for Papua New Guinea arriving there on December 4, 1942. He was taken on strength with the 2/10 Battalion from Milne Force Camp on December 8, 1942. He was killed in action on December 26, 1942 during the battle at Buna. He was buried in the Buna locality of Papua New Guinea.
