Son of Alexander von Wertheim and Louise Laroux. Known siblings: Armand, Clara, Alexander, Henry. Served in the Spanish-American War, and is mentioned as "assistant quartermaster general of United Spanish War veterans" in 1913. The 1900 US Federal Census finds him in Middlesex County, New Jersey, living with his sister, Clara, and her husband and family. In 1920, he is living in the Bronx (New York) with a wife named Florence (nee Anderson), whom he married 18 Oct 1915 in Manhattan.. His 1918 WWI Draft Card defines him as tall, slender, with brown eyes and brown hair. In 1930, he and Florence are living in Queens, New York. They have no children. In 1940, he is back in Texas, states he is widowed, and is living with the Charles Britz family, by whom he is identified as an uncle. Military records say he was a member of the 1st Texas Cavalry. Ernest died in the VA hospital in Kerrville of cancer.
