It is believed that Warren Cowan and his crew including Lauri Sheard, were originally interred at Lae War Cemetery. Their remains were repatriated there by USAF investigators who had recovered remains from a US C-47 transport, when they were told by villages of another wreck in the area. It was later identified as Cowan's Hudson.
Pilot Officer Warren Cowan (/explore/people/512084), 31 years old from Angaston SA, was killed in action on 22 July 1942, along with his crew;
