Mae was born on August 3, 1924 in Scotland County to the late Henry J. Penny and Lilly Jacobs Penny. She is also preceded in death by her husband Cecil Thompson and granddaughter Martha Thompson Parson. Mae retired after more than 50 years from Waverly Mills in the office as payroll clerk. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of
Laurinburg, NC serving faithfully for many years.
She is survived by her son, Leonard Thompson and wife, Leslie Noble Thompson of Jacksonville Beach, FL; grandson, Leonard Stephen Thompson, Jr and wife Katy of Birmingham, AL; grandson-in-law, Cliff Parson; sister Betty P. Myers of Laurinburg, NC; great grandchildren, Ford Parson, Mary Lesley Parson, MacKenzie Thompson, Foster Thompson; nieces, Elizabeth Ferguson of Southern Pines, NC, Penny Craner of Laurinburg; nephew George Myers of Laurinburg, NC.
