RAYNE - Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at a 3:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for the former Ms. Ruthie Mae Benoit, age 78, who passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at her residence in Rayne.

Interment will be in St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, will officiate at the services.

Ms. Benoit was a native of Rayne and a lifelong resident of Mire. She was definitely one of a kind. Never a dull moment. Ms. Benoit loved her family whole heartedly and was the rock of them. She was always cooking something up to get everyone together with French music playing. Ms. Benoit was a wonderful care giver for many years and she worked hard all her life.

Survivors include two sons, Vernell Cormier and his wife, Adrienne, of Mire and Scotty Cormier and his wife, Jodi, of Scott; two daughters, Paula Melancon and her husband, Danny, and Tina Cormier all of Mire; two sisters, Betty Hebert of Carencro and Delores Babineaux of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Dylan Cormier and his spouse, Zed, Seth Tyler Cormier, Dannon Melancon and his wife, Katie, Allen Paul Cormier and his fiancé Jade Lyons, Darlene Cormier and Lilly Melancon; two step grandchildren, Laurel Bickford and Lester Leger; one great-grandchild, Atlas Paul Cormier; and one step great-granddaughter, Kaydence Leger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delano Benoit and the former Frances Thibodeaux; one infant daughter, Darlene Cormier; four brothers, Alphonse Benoit, Leroy Benoit, Phillip Lloyd Benoit and Eldridge "Showee" Benoit; and four sisters, Helen Benoit, Dorothy Thibodeaux, Edolia Credeur and Barbara Forestier.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:30 am until service time on Thursday.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, especially her nurses, Jamie and Julie.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Cormier, Seth Tyler Cormier, Dannon Melancon, Allen Paul Cormier, Darlene Cormier and Lilly Melancon.
