2 July 1945 - Aircraft: Dakota IV KN344 Unit 1315 - The airplane operated on a cargo flight from Mascot Airport, New South Wales, Australia to Momote Airfield, Los Negros Island, Admiralty Islands, Papua New Guinea with enroute stops at Townsville-Garbutt Airfield, Queensland, Australia and an airfield in the Milne Bay area. Aboard was freight for the Royal Australian Navy. Crashed due to bad weather.

Pilot F/Lt Charles Raymond Kerferd Young, 425802 RAAF (KIA)
Navigator F/O Frederick Dunlop Rutledge, 426164 RAAF (KIA)
Radio W/O Kenneth Clement Bevan, 1140088 RAF (KIA).

The wreckage was found by a RAAF Searcher Team led by S/L Keith Rundle near Samarai Island. The remains of the crew were recovered and were buried at the Bomana War Cemetery.
