Barbara Thompson-Merritt, 67, passed away on March 17, 2022.
She was born on September 27, 1954
Barbara was a retired wife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara spent her final days on earth surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Tar Heel High School in 1972. Her early adult years were spent raising her two boys and running the family business.
She was fortunate enough to build her dream home where she would live out the rest of her years enjoying nature and all the animals she was so fond of. Barbara was well known for her excellent cooking and enjoyed years of entertaining family and friends. She was a lover of the outdoors and frequently vacationed in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee as well as the coast. As a grandmother she spent many late nights playing hide and go seek with all of her grandchildren. Barbara was adored and will be missed by many.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Tracy Gilbert Beard, Sr; and her brother, Tracy Gilbert Beard, Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Danny Merritt; two sons, Jody Thompson and Jeremy Thompson (Latrice Tanner); four grandchildren: Jonah Thompson, Noah Thompson, Annabelle Thompson, and Asa Thompson; her mother, Mabel Beard; and four sisters: Brenda Brisson, Kay Ellison, Lorie Pearce, and Ginny Mire.
The graveside services will be held at the family graveyard located at the corner of Chickenfoot Rd and Shaw Mill Rd in St Pauls.
