Viola Kay Swanson, 83, of Battle Creek, passed away on March 11, 2022, in Marshall, MI.
She was born on November 28, 1938, to Leonard and Clara (Potthoff) VanDorsten in Battle Creek, MI. She was one of the 25 students in the first graduating class of Springfield High School, in 1957, and married Robert F. Swanson shortly after on June 16th celebrating 57 years together before he died April 5, 2014. Viola enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her daughter. In addition, she liked to work in her garden, as well as sewing, baking, cooking, and canning.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Ann (Robert) Reuter of Carpentersville, IL, and her two grandchildren, Kenneth Vonckx of Springfield, IL and Alyssa Vonckx of Carpentersville, IL. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert, and parents, Leonard and Clara VanDorsten,
Viola's wishes for cremation have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Viola and Robert are now together and a committal service for in honor of both as well as Military Honors for Robert will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, 1:00 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012 with Rev. Don Francis, officiating.
