MECHANICSVILLE, VA ---Leona Louise Baker Suit, age 98 of Mechanicsville, VA formerly of Arlington, VA has gone home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022. She was born September 6, 1923 to the late Ava Jones Baker and Clarence T. Baker of Sweet Springs, WV. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer C. Suit, sisters Elaine Morgan, Mary Ann Baker, Charlene Craycraft and brother Leonard Baker. She is survived by her devoted daughter Mary Kathryn Thrift, grandson Brian Thrift, brother Paul Baker, sister Helen Comber, dedicated caregiver Carol Martin and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was an inspiration to many with her strong faith in God and accepted the Lord at an early age. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church in Arlington, VA for many years and taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She graduated from Gap Mills High School, WV in 1941. After graduating from Dunsmore Business College in 1942 she went to work for the National Housing Agency in the Loan Department for 2 years. For 25 years she worked for AS Pratt & Co. in the advertising department. She then worked for City Duplicating in the accounting department for over 20 years before retiring in 1998. She loved to travel and has been to 48 states and their capitols. In 1974 she traveled for a month in the Holy Land of Israel. She was a very generous person donating to many worthwhile charities. Leona's favorite pastimes were sitting on her front porch, reading the Bible, attending Bible conferences, doing puzzles and puzzle books, creating over 50 scrapbooks, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 12, 2022 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery at Gap Mills, WV.
