James Philip Alexander (Phil), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born in Huntsville, Texas on September 9, 1935. He was the oldest of two sons of James Worsham and Ola Mae Alexander.

Phil grew up on the family farm. He was an avid baseball player. He learned to play on a homemade field on the family land where many friends played until dark.  He became a letterman and an All-District second baseman at Huntsville High School. After graduating, he continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin and then Sam Houston State University. He graduated from Sam Houston State with a Bachelor and Master's Degree in chemistry.

While being a teaching assistant in a chemistry lab, one of his students that he met became the love of his life, a twirler for the Sam Houston State band Mary Jane Anderson. They married 59 years ago on a hot humid day in June at First Baptist Church in Streetman, Texas. Soon after they moved to Pasadena, Texas to start their adventure. They were blessed with two sons, Brian and Todd.

Phil's career started at Olin Corporation in Pasadena, Texas where he worked as a chemist and in production.  His career led him to Joplin, Missouri, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and then back to Pasadena, Texas where he called home. Phil later taught physics and chemistry at South Houston High School.

He was known for his humor and quick wit.  Phil was the source of many funny stories. He also was well known as an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking.  Phil created his own recipes including championship chili and mouth-watering steaks.

Phil was diagnosed with cancer and defeated it.  He later was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.  These disabilities seemed to intensify his humor and wit.  He was a member and active participant of the Houston Area Parkinson's Society.

Phil adored his two grandchildren, Ruthie and Simon.  His passions included entertaining grandkids, playing cards and dominoes with family, pulling for his favorite sports teams and serving his church. Phil served as President of the Midway Church and Cemetery Association for many years.  He was loved by all those who knew him.  Most of all he was a Christian.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents and brother.  He is survived by his wife, Jane, both sons and his two grandchildren.
