John Patrick Ryan, age 75, passed away at his home on February 27, 2022.

John was born on February 26, 1947 in Council Bluffs to the late John Phillip and Harriett Jean (Smith) Ryan. He was raised in Council Bluffs by his grandparents, John D. and Ruth Ryan. John graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1965. After his high school graduation, John started a career as a clerk working for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He then joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and was plank owner serving on the USS Anchorage as a Petty Officer 1st Class, machinist from 1968-1970. John then transitioned to working for Slipper Theatre Supply Company, where he built the insides of movie theatres across the country for the next ten years. In 1988, John started his own business, John Ryan Services (MAES Corporation) where he continued working in the movie theatre industry installing theatre seats, screens, sound systems, curtains, and projectors. He retired from the theatre business in 2004. John also owned and operated Rainwood Stables where years of fond family memories were created, caring for, and competitively showing their American Saddlebred horses. John loved to golf, tinker with electronics and other complex gadgets, and build items from the ground up. He built his own home as well as owned several rental properties in Council Bluffs along with vacation getaways from Arizona to Arkansas. He meticulously remodeled each of his properties. John was self-taught, brilliant beyond measure, and a mechanical genius. He was talented enough to solve any problem or challenge he ran across. John was a private pilot and enjoyed flying his planes for many years.

John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gwen; two daughters from his first marriage, Mary Ryan, and Jillian (Troy) Ryan-Vanacek and their son Charlie; stepchildren, Tracy (Matt) Torchia and their daughters, Sophia and Mia, Kelly (Shelia) Thomas and their son, Jack; half-brother, Mike Ryan and half-sister, Pam Ryan.

Private family services were held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
