Funeral services for Coy Carter Jr., 73, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 16, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tony Hemphill will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.
Mr. Carter died Wednesday, Sept. 14. Born in Dillon County, he was a son of the late Coy and Annie Jackson Carter Sr. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He was a loving, caring and giving husband and father. He retired from Sonoco after 39-plus years, was a member of the Old Timers Club and previously served in the U. S. Army. He was a lifetime member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Omar Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Rogers Carter of Hartsville; son, Coy "Rusty" Carter III of Harriman, Tenn.; daughter, Vanessa Carter of Hartsville; sister, Lillian Bryant of Dillon; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence J. and Pansy Carter of Blythewood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton and Barbara Rogers of Mullins; several nieces and nephews; three special great-nieces and two great-nephews.
