Mrs. Newell was born in Wayne County to the late Paul Bryant Talton and Eula Purnell Talton. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Private graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Homer Morris and the Rev. JoAnn Turner officiating.
Mrs. Newell is survived by her daughter, Sherry Stafford and her husband, DeNeal, of Goldsboro; her sister, Julie Bridgers and husband, Tom, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Scott Stafford and Bryant Stafford; and her niece, Molly Bridgers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece, Mary Scott Bridgers, and her loving pet, Frieda.
