He was a retired farmer and was a member of Grassy Creek Methodist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ollie Bostic Mays of Castlewood; six sons, Thomas Mays, Boyd Mays, Giles Mays, Charles Mays, Charles Mays, Joe Mays, and Emmett Mays, all of Kingsport; four daughters, Mrs. Mahala Welch of Castlewood, Va., Mrs. Nell Fields, Mrs Virginia Galloway, Mrs. Sarah Biddison, all of Kingsport; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The Lebanon Funeral Home in Lebanon, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
