Elizabeth "Betty" Vashti Elliott, of Lynchburg, was welcomed into Eternal Life on Monday, January 31, 2022, at her home in Lynchburg. She was born on December 30, 1956, at Fort Bragg, N.C., the youngest child of Joseph Morris Elliott and Vashti Peecksen Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Her father passed two years earlier on November 4, 2019, and her mother only three-and-a-half months earlier on October 11, 2021.

Betty's earliest years were spent in various cities in the eastern United States as her father changed jobs, living in Utica, N.Y., Roanoke, Arlington and Fairfax. In 1962, her family moved to Lynchburg, where they remained for the next 11 years.

Betty attended Bedford Hills Elementary School, Seven Hills School and Dunbar High School. In 1973, her family moved to Florence, S.C., then a year later to Satellite Beach, Fla., where she graduated from Satellite High School in 1975. After graduation, she attended Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Fla.

In 1978, Betty followed her parents to Sheboygan Falls, Wisc., but in 1996 returned to Lynchburg, which she always considered home and where her most treasured memories took place.

Betty had a strong interest in genealogy and spent much of her spare time researching her family's history. In recent years, she has been a regular participant in activities at Centra PACE.

She is survived by a brother, Bradley Elliott and wife, Judith, of Smith Mountain Lake; a niece, Emily Billings, husband, Derek and their daughter, Daisy, of Dayville, Conn.; and a cousin, Jenijoy Fisher, husband Chaplain Linn Fisher and their son. James, of Southern Pines, N.C.

A memorial service for Betty and her mother will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 South Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, with Pastor Paul Pingel officiating. The family will receive friends and guests for a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those desiring to make memorial contributions do so to Centra Foundation, 1920 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24504, or to the church or charity of their choice.
