Mary Catherine Saville Clem was born in 1841 in the Inkerman area of Hardy County to Isaac Saville and Delilah Asbury Saville. She was married to Joseph Henry Clem in about 1857 and they moved to Hampshire County in the early 1860s. She had 9 children: Rector Mitchell, Mary Emily, Delilah Ann, John Michael, James Powell, Calvin, Martha Rosetta, Samuel Park, and Laura Christina. She was known as Mother Clem.
