James W. Archer, Jr age 87, Tarpon Springs went to be with the Lord on September 9, surrounded by his family. Jim was born on May 25, 1932 in Max Meadows, VA. After serving two years in the United States Army, Jim played 13 years in the minor and Major League Baseball organizations. He was a left handed pitcher for the Kansas City Athletics and Baltimore Orioles. He moved to Tarpon Springs in 1969 where he lived for 43 years. He managed Tarpon Chevrolet & Oldsmobile Dealership for 20 years and later worked in different capacities for 28 years at Karl Flammer Ford.

Jim was a member of the Elks Lodge, served as president at Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce twice. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Tarpon Springs for 38 years, serving a year as president. Jim also served two terms as Tarpon Springs City Commissioner and Vice Mayor.

Jim enjoyed years of playing tennis and golf with his buddies. He was a kind hearted, caring, honest man with a great sense of humor. He was quite a joke teller and enjoyed talking and making speeches on his baseball playing days.

Jim leaves behind his beloved wife, Becky of 49 years, son, Jeffrey Archer (Sandra), Richmond, VA. Son, Todd Archer, Holiday, FL. Grandson, Jacob Archer, Richmond, VA and many nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Julia Archer, Max Meadows, VA. Brothers John Allen, Wytheville, VA., and Swannie Allen, Dunedin, FL and sister, Virginia Allen McMillan, Dublin, VA.
