Willie Charles Jones, 78, of Laurel, MS, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at South Central Regional Medical Center, Laurel.

Willie Charles Jones was born to the late Toy and Claudine Crosby Jones on May 13, 1943, in Moss, MS. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Grove Moss. Willie Charles received his formal education at Blue Ridge and Bay Spring elementary schools and Bay Springs Vocational High School where he graduated.

He moved to New York in 1963 where he lived, married, had two daughters and worked for over thirty years. He relocated back to Mississippi in 1993. Willie Charles was affectionately known as Scooter. He never met a stranger, loved music, art, movies, giving advice and the creative art of storytelling. Scooter loved God, his family, friends and he will truly be missed.

Scooter was preceded in death by his parents Toy and Claudine Crosby Jones; paternal grandparents Rev. John and Matilda Morgan Jones; maternal grandparents Claude and Clantha Jones Crosby; sisters Betty Jean Mitchell, Laura Jane Campbell, Sandra Jones Stephens and Charlene Jones Shelby; aunts Alice Jones, Beatrice Newell and Jerlene Crosby; uncles Jack Crosby, Sr and Lester Crosby; nephew Wyatt Mitchell.

Scooter leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters, Tammy Jones (James)-Gibbs of Briarwood, NY and Tabitha Jones (Rodney) Perry of Raleigh, NC; Lillie Davis (former wife); three grandsons, Marcellus (Jasmin) Perry of Richmond, VA, Elijah Perry of Greenville, SC and Cameron Gibbs of Briarwood, NY; two granddaughters, Alina and Kayla Gibbs of Briarwood, NY; one great granddaughter Aubrey Perry of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Acie Lee (Hazel) Jones of Laurel, MS, Johnny Ray (Sheila) Jones of Yorktown, VA; four sisters, Mary Ellen McCurdy of Bay Springs, MS, Betty J. (Oscar) Moncure of Jackson, MS, Mae Jewel (Myles) Evans of Pearland, TX and Shirley J. (Moses) Hill of Hattiesburg, MS; three brothers- in-law, Larry Campbell of Laurel, MS, Robert Stephens of Hattiesburg, MS and Dudley Shelby of Stringer, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday, March 24, at Sun Light Baptist Church. Viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Sun Light Baptist Church Cemetery.
