James Howard Higgins February 16, 1959 - March 17, 2022

Gaffney, S.C. - James Howard Higgins, 63, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Angela Turner Higgins and the son of the late Howard Dean Higgins and Mary Frances Scruggs Higgins.

He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, where he was a former kicker for the Indians. Later in his life, he volunteered as Special Teams Coach for the Limestone College Football Team. He enjoyed playing and refurbishing guitars. He also loved animals and enjoyed raising homing pigeons. Mr. Higgins was a Professional House Painter and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday School Teacher and served on various committees.

In addition to his wife, also surviving is a daughter, Erica Higgins Phillips (Timothy) of Forest City, N.C.; a brother, Danny Higgins of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Lori Turner of Gaffney; and a granddaughter, Isabel Phillips.

Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by a brother, David Higgins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Pastor Phil Gallman officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Isabel Phillips College Fund, c/o State Employees Credit Union, 248 South Main Street, Rutherfordton, N.C., 28139 or Bethany Baptist Church, P.O Box 698, Gaffney, S.C., 29342.

The family will be at their respective homes.
