DIED AT THE FAMILY HOME

SATURDAY AUGUST 14, AGED

82 YEARS

After a severe sickness of paralysis for only a few days Miles Wayne Bullock a prominent citizen of Howell answered the last roll call and passed to the great beyond. The funeral being held Monday at four o'clock from the residence Rev. Veal of the Episcopal church officiating burial in Lakeview cemetery in vault overlooking Thompson Lake.
Miles Wayne Bullock son of Wayne Bullock and Cordelia Elizabeth Skinner was born in New York state July 26 1844, making his home with his parents until the Civil War broke out. During these years he received his education and learned the vocation which he followed most of his life namely surveying. His whole life was a testimony to the Christian home in which he as reared.
In 1861 at the outbreak of the war Mr. Bullock enlisted in the 61st N. Y. Volunteer Infantry but on account of serious sickness was discharged in 1862. In the fall of 1864 he re-enlisted serving until the close of the war. In the year 1866 Mr. Bullock met Cordelia Sexton of Howell while on a visit to Sherburne, N. Y. and was married to her July 21, 1866, and came at once to Michigan to make their home and the 60 years of happy married life was spent in Livingston county most of the time at Howell. The last few winters have been spent in the south. Mrs. Bullock suffered a severe stroke of paralysis while in Washington, D. C. a year ago last winter, from which she has never entirely recovered. For nearly 40 years Mr. Bullock has been county surveyor and during those years he has tramped the surrounding hills in all kinds of weather.
With the assistance of Mr. Phinney, Mr. Bullock helped in the establishment of the towns of Ashley and Perrington in Gratiot county in this state.
He was a member of the Michigan Society of the Sons of the American revolution, and of the Mayflower society.
He is survived by his aged wife and one daughter, Miss D. Edith Bullock at home, also one grandson E. Sexton Bullock, of Detroit, and one granddaughter Ruby Imogene Bullock, of Grand Rapids. An only son of Mr. and Mrs. Bullock, M. Wallace, a former Detroit business man died there several years ago.
Mr. Bullock had been a member of the Waddell Post G. A. R. of Howell since its organization and of which now only a few of its former 190 or more members survive. At the time of his death Mr. Bullock was Adjutant of Waddell Post.
