First wife of George Mason, an American patriot and owner of Gunston Hall, Virginia. She was born in 1723 as Anna Eilbeck, and they were married in 1750. Together they had five sons and four daughters. After her death in 1773, George Mason married Sarah Brent in 1780. George Mason was influential in early colonial American politics, both for his home state of Virginia and for the Federal Government. His influence is clearly seen in the Constitution of the United States.

Inscription

Ann Mason daughter of William Eilbeck
of Charles County Maryland, merchant, departed
this life on the 9th day of March 1773 in the
39th year of her age after a long and painful
illness which she bore with uncommon fortitude
and resignation.

"Once she was all that cheers and sweetens life, the
tender mother, daughter, friend and wife. Once she was
all that makes mankind adore. Now view this marble
and be vain no more!"
