He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He served with distinction in World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army in December 1963.
He retired from Civil Service in 1985.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Britton, Patricia Mortimer, Karen Shack, Brenda and Steve Eliason; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leslie Carroll Jr., Timothy and Mary Carroll, and Kevin and Betty Carroll. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Kelly, Ashley, Kristen, Tracy, Brittany, Nicole, Jennifer, Derek, Jacqueline, Timmy Jr., Eddy and Tricia; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also the brother of the late McClure Carroll of Florida, Edna Blakemore of Virginia, and Gaynelle Bartlett of Maryland.
