AMERICUS -- Mr. Raphord M. Allegood, age 88, of Americus died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Mr. Allegood was a native of Colquitt County, born the son of the late James R. and Edie H. Allegood. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II, an avid gardener and owner of Ryan Street Grocery in Montgomery, Ala. for 42 years, before moving to Americus.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church on Monday, March 29, with the Rev. Nelson Weathersby, the Rev. Tommy McConnel and the Rev. Greg Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Allegood is survived by his wife, Ruby G. Allegood of Americus; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lucille Hagler of Snellville, Ethelene and Dewey Roark of St. Augustine, Fla., Pearlie Mae Vickers of Lakeland, Fla., Virginia Seay of Moultrie and Winiford and Emory Laird of Pineville, La.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary D. Kickerson.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Stanfill, Floyd Crosby, Allan Lee, Steve Carswell, Gentry Tillman, Jared George, Christopher Carswell and Jimmy Dickerson. Requested to serve as honorary pallbearers will be Billy Harper, Jimmy Bass, Paul Bush, Fox Stephens, Paul Shellnut and Jim Bowen.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. today, Sunday, March 28 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel.
