David Leo Keller, 83, of Winchester, left this life on March 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. David was born in New Albany, Indiana, on October 5, 1938. He was one of eight children born to Harold and Anna Bernadine Bordenet Keller. The family relocated from Indiana to Oak Ridge, TN and then later to Winchester, TN in 1950. He graduated from Franklin County High School and joined the Marines at age 17 where he served 4 years as a helicopter mechanic primarily in Okinawa. After returning to Tennessee, David worked at AEDC as a storekeeper where he met the love of his life Emma Jean Hawk Keller. They married in May 1964. David obtained his Bachelor's in Accounting from the University of Tennessee while working full-time and raising two children. He also attended Art School. David and Emma Jean resided in Pelham TN until 1979 where David was actively involved with Pelham Elementary School and Pelham United Methodist Church. He was often recruited to create scenery and props for plays and charity events. David also provided the "Franklin County Rebel" cartoons for the Herald Chronicle for many years. His sense of humor was evident in all these cartoons and those he did for co-workers at AEDC. He served as Chairman of the Grundy County school Board from 1975-1979. David had a fantastic business mind but also a creative streak. He combined his creativity and his sense of humor to create several retail novelty items over the years. The most successful was "The Hillbilly Fishing Rod" which was a fake stick of dynamite complete with instructions on how to catch fish. David served as Franklin County Industrial Recruiter for a number of years. He was Property Administrator for the Air Force at AEDC for many years before retiring in 2011. Over the years, David was generous with his time and enjoyed helping family and friends with school projects, papers, resumes, job searches, etc. He was the main attraction for any kids and a great lover of animals. David is preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. Keller Sr. and Anna Bernadine Bordenet Keller, his brothers, Joseph E. (Joe) Keller, Harold A. (Bud) Keller Jr., William (Bill) Keller, and Paul E. Keller. David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Jean Hawk Keller; his very special 4-legged buddy, his dog Sammy, his children, Charles Keller and Denise Keller Ledford (Gary); six grandchildren, Travis Ledford (Jackie), Emma Ledford, Molly West, Audrey West, Eathan Keller, and Evan Keller; 2 great-grandchildren, Addie Ledford and Brooks Ledford. He is also survived by one sister, MaryLou Keller Lybecker and one brother, Bernard J. (BJ) Keller. Special thanks to special family friend Glenda Patterson for her love and support. David and his family would be blessed if you choose to honor him by donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Animal Harbor. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 19, 2022 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2222,
