June Newton Thompson, 84, of Apex, died Monday, March 14, 2022 at her home in Apex.
June was born in Raleigh, NC on August 24, 1937 to the late Durwood Allen Newton and Doris Speight Newton. She was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School.

June was the founder of the North Carolina ALS Foundation and volunteered to numerous charities. Retired from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for the City of Raleigh. She was a member of Apex Baptist Church and the Dubbleman/Fincher Ladies Senior Adult Sunday School Class (the Golden Girls).

She was preceded in death by her husband, CSM Larry B. Thompson; sister, Peggy Newton; and son-in-law, Robert Michael Lowery. June is survived by her two daughters; three grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 12pm Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Apex Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 10am - 12pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at 3pm at Speight Family Cemetery in Stantonsburg, NC.
