Joseph F. Callahan, Jr., 70, of Military Road, died on March 15, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

Mr. Callahan was born on June 25, 1951 in Utica, a son of Jennie (Arcuri) Callahan and the late Joseph Callahan. He received his education from Whitesboro and West Canada Valley Central Schools. Joseph had various occupations throughout his life. He was a bus driver and dairy farmer in his early years. He later owned a convenience store in Norway and started J & L Trucking. Joe was the Town of Norway Highway Superintendant for several years. He was last employed as a truck driver at Feher Rubbish Removal, Schuyler, from where he retired.

Joseph had many interests, in his early years he enjoyed snowmobiling, drag racing, muscle cars, and especially the 1968 Ford Gran Torino named "Mr. Mouse". He was an avid outdoorsman and took pride in maintaining his lawn.

Survivors besides his mother Jennie, include four siblings, Ferdinand Callahan (Audrey Furlong) of Poland, Anna (William) Bell, Michael Callahan, all of Poland, and Mary (John) Metzgier of Stittville; a special niece, Mary Bell; four canine companions that meant the world to him; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, Joseph, Sr., he was predeceased by two brothers, Louis Callahan, Sr., and Herbert Telfer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Newport on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Father Terence Healy and Deacon Jim Bower, officiating. Spring interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Newport. There will be no public calling hours.
