He was a member and a deacon at Bethany Baptist Church. Hobbies included camping, boating, hunting, and old cars and old motorcycles. The family still has a 1978 Pontiac Bonneville with low mileage. When it came to dealing with buying and selling cars, he was a wheeler-dealer and always looked for a bargain. He retired from DuPont. In earlier years, he served in the US Army National Guard. He loved John Wayne movies and often used one of his quotes when needed, "Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid", which was usually followed by a smile. He always enjoyed going to air shows and watching the big military planes come and go.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bonnie Coleman, of the home; daughter, Crystal Hughes and husband, Mike of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Savannah Agee and husband, Grahm; and Max Hughes; great-grandchildren, Delaney Agee, Emmie Agee, and Annie Agee; and special friends, the Rook family.
Services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 18, 2022, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Kenneth Gipson and Mitchell Doss officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery with Max Hughes, Grahm Agee, Gary Gipson, Jerry Coleman, Teddy Rook, and Dickey Rook serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Comer Reynolds and Elmo Mayhan. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time.
