Elbert Patton "Poppy" McGlothlin, age 89, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed Sunday night in a Richlands, Virginia hospital.

Born in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Jacob and Viney Ray McGlothlin. He had lived in the Swords Creek community since 1950, moving there from Buchanan County. He was a member of the Swords Creek Pentecostal Church and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 7327 at Jewell Valley, Va.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Victoria McGlothlin of the home; three daughters, Mrs. George (Carmie) Clark, Mrs. C. B. (Dorothy) VanDyke and Mrs. Alvie (Sylvia) VanDyke all of Honaker; five sons, Nelson McGlothlin of Rosedale, Virginia, Carson McGlothlin of Rowe, Virginia, Clinton McGlothlin of Honaker, Herman McGlothlin and Ferrell McGlothlin both of Swords Creek ; two brothers, Larkin McGlothlin of Swords Creek and King McGlothlin of of Fletcher Ridge; twenty nine grandchildren, thirty nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Robinson and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will remain at the Honaker Funeral Home where friends may call until the funeral hour.
