As the oldest of four children, Wanda helped raise her siblings after their father passed away due to injuries sustained in a car accident in 1946.
The family moved to Spring Branch (Houston, TX) in 1945 where she attended Lamar High School for one semester, went back to Oklahoma for one, then returned to Houston to attend Cypress Fairbanks High School, where she met the love of her life, Leslie. They were married in October of 1950. She was best known for her baking skills while working after school at a café on Katy Rd. and Campbell, baking chocolate and coconut cream pies. Later on, she was best known for her version of the brownstone cake served at family gatherings.
Wanda worked at various secretarial jobs and in 1963, joined the staff at the Main Building, downtown Houston, where she eventually became manager as one of the first women in her industry to do so. Her office building was across the street from Foley's, and her love of fashion made her a frequent shopper there. It was a joke that the store might go out of business when she left on vacations. She retired after a successful 30 years with the company in 1993.
Wanda and Leslie both loved spending their weekends at their place in Carmine, fishing, hunting, and having friends over for BBQ. She was also like a second mother to her nieces and nephews, and was always concerned for their well-being. She loved to travel on vacation and going on cruises with dear friends.
Wanda was an active member of Cypress United Methodist Church, including their bible study, game day, and other activities and events. She was dedicated to keeping up her strength, whether it was classes at her last apartment community or back when she went to the YMCA 3 times a week with some lady friends from church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Louis Borgstedt; her parents, Joe and Ida Belle Goff; her brother, George Goff; sister, Audrey Sullivan and husband Ted; nephews, Christopher Sullivan, Billy Joe Goff, and George Goff; and niece, Connie Goff.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Margie Stardig and husband Ted; nieces, Brenda Stardig, Beverly Spaulding and husband Steve, Janice Sanders and husband Joe, Gayle Perez and husband Ricky, and Susan Caraway; nephews, Todd Stardig and husband Manfred Neber, and Mike Sullivan and wife Sharon; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065. A funeral service for Wanda will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Klein Funeral Home on Wortham Blvd., to be immediately followed by committal in Borgstedt Cemetery in Cypress, TX.
