Charles "Chuck" Ray Hastings was born at home in Edmond, Oklahoma to Raymond "Jack" and Bertha Pauline Hastings, on September 22, 1944. He was born the 3rd of four brothers, Jack, James and Elwyn. He passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
After graduating from Edmond High School, he attended Northeastern University where he played football. Realizing college was not his path, he left college after the first year to enter the workforce. He worked as a plumber, in electronics at Tinker Air Force Base, and then found his true calling with the FAA starting as an electrician and retired from the FAA in 1996, as a Quality Control Specialist. After retiring he signed on with Data Com in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as a Contractor until he fully retired in 2004. This is what Charles did, but this is who Chuck was: Chuck's life truly started when he married the love of his life on June 27, 1963. That started their life- long adventure, rooted in Faith and nurtured by family. Their first child was born February 1965. While deciding their son's name, the only request from Chuck was that he not be named after him. So, shortly after the birth of their son, Chuck learned what the government required to change his name to Charles Ray Hastings Sr. They received their 2nd child, a daughter, Traci, in 1968, and in the next four years, they were blessed with two more sons. Scott in 1971 and Spencer in 1972.
The family grew in Edmond and was active in church and community. In 1977, the family moved to Japan for four years. When they returned to the states, they settled in North Edmond and became a very active part of the Guthrie community. Here in Guthrie, he was a deacon at First Southern Baptist Church, served on many committees, cooked for the youth of the church for many years at Falls Creek each summer, prepared many meals for the church and the Guthrie Bluejay Football team, served as Treasure of the Gideons for many years, and was an Inspector for the Logan County Election Board. He also helped out in the concession stand for the high school baseball team throughout his years.
