Joan Morrison
November 18, 1925 - March 10, 2022
With profound sadness, we announce the death of Theresa Joan Morrison (96) early on March 10, 2022, peacefully in her sleep with family present. Joan was one of seven children born in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Edward H. Salmon, M.D., and Theresa Kennedy Salmon. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Edward Morrison, Sr.; devoted mother of Paul Morrison (Debby), Patricia Kuntze (Ed), Nancy O'Connor, Michael Morrison and Andrew Morrison (Karen); loving grandmother of Scott Morrison (Cathy), Bridget O'Connor (Saadeh Al-Jurf), Erin Pan (Dave), Matthew O'Connor, Timothy Morrison (Amanda), Caitlin O'Connor (Ethan Guralnick), Adrian Kuntze, Maya Kuntze and Taylor Theresa Morrison, and cherished great-grandmother of Easton and Ty Morrison; Hugh, Amelia Joan and Agnes Al-Jurf; Brandon and Lucas Pan, and Alice Guralnick. She had 27 nieces and nephews and many other close relatives for whom she served as loving family matriarch for many years.
Joan was a 1943 graduate of St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City and completed her nurse's training in the U. S. Nurse Cadet Corps at St. Michael's Hospital in New York City during WWII. She worked for many years with the National Health Screening Council, one of the earliest national efforts to establish health screenings as an integral part of health promotion and disease prevention.
Joan was a woman who loved and lived her faith. She was an active member of St. Jude Thaddeus parish, where all of her children were educated, and then an original and active parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rockville, MD. She was a generous patron of Catholic community-based efforts to address educational and health concerns, especially those of American Indian children.
Having Joan by your side was both an inspiration and a comfort. She was always humble and remarkably strong. A homemaker, trusted confidante and avid traveler, Joan will be as sorely missed by all remaining here as she is warmly welcomed by all in her new Home. We trust that she is now sharing her same keen mind, sharp Jersey Girl wit and exacting project management skills with her beloved husband Paul and her other family and friends who preceded her through the Pearly Gates as she shared with us for these many years.
Friends and relatives are welcome to call for visitation on Tuesday, March 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet parking). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 4101 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD 20853, with burial immediately following at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
We ask for your continued prayers and encourage your consideration, in lieu of flowers, of a donation dedicated in her memory to the American Indian Catholic Schools Network of the Alliance for Catholic Education through the University of Notre Dame.
