OBITUARY
Eddie Garvin Deem, 87, passed away on February 22, 2022. He passed with his family by his side in Louisburg, NC. He was the firm, loving, and trusted patriarch of the Deems.

He is survived by his second wife, Donna Jean (D.J.) Deem, who supported him with unwavering love and care from the time they met, until his final moments. Gratitude for D.J.'s selfless devotion will live in our hearts eternally alongside the memory of Ed.

He is survived by his sister, Beverly, and his children, Cheri (Curt), Pamela (Thomas), Kevin (Sue), Brian (Francesca), and Ilana (Hunter). He was cherished by his grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Lauren, Alex, Michelle, Giulia, Emily, and Paxton. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Roman, and Kyndall.

He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Janice (Arnold) Deem, who left this Earth too early, and whose immense love, grace, and beauty has never been forgotten. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, and his brothers, Bill and Fred.

Although he was born in Kansas, where his family followed the oil fields, he was a proud West Virginian. After growing up in Smithville, WV, he graduated from Harrisville High School in 1952. He enjoyed traveling to Ritchie County, WV, even in his later years, to celebrate his community and camaraderie with his former classmates at their annual reunion.

A graduate of Glenville State College, he worked as a chemist at American Cyanamid and went on to own his own insurance agency in Parkersburg, WV.

Throughout his life, he exemplified the values instilled within him in the United States Marine Corps during his service, 1953-1955. He was a devoted member of the American Legion in Tampa, FL, then AMVETS Post 201 in Lake Royale, NC, where he dedicated himself to supporting his fellow veterans. He loved and protected his country and his family, with the threat of his own bootcamp always on the horizon for unruly grandchildren.

To know Ed was to love him, as his charm, dedication to his family, sense of humor, and stubbornness will be forever remembered by those who knew him best.

Unquestionably in life, and assuredly in death, he has biscuits in the oven and his famous fudge on the stove in heaven. He is undoubtedly keeping his cards true, the beer cold, and his troops in line. His love was just like him, larger than life. His memory will transcend time as his family celebrates his love and the life of their own John Wayne.

Per Ed's request, a service will not be held, but his ashes will be spread in his birthplace, Smithville, WV, during his HS reunion at the end of July.

In his honor, please make your family something delicious to eat, go fishing, and salute and honor the American Flag
