Mary (Lulu) Thornton, of Roslyn, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was 83 years old. Mary was born in Philadelphia on December 16, 1938 to the late Russell and Mary (née McGonigle) Holtz. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Thornton who passed away in 2019.
Mary was the loving mother of Ellen Staerk (Joseph), Michael Thornton, Patrick Thornton (Annemarie), Theresa McDermott (John), James Thornton (Kelly), Thomas Thornton, and Elizabeth Giandomenico (Stephen).
She was affectionately known as Lulu to her 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and was the caring sister to the late William Holtz, Dee Holtz and Eileen Sweeney.
She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary's visitation on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by her memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. at the church of St. Luke the Evangelist, 2316 Fairhill Ave, Glenside, PA 19038. Interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
