Retired USN Vietnam War Veteran MM3 Michael Burns (69), passed away in the early morning of Friday March 11, 2022 at Kent General Hospital.

Michael "Mike" was born on December 18, 1952 in Brooklyn NY to Edward and Margaret (Leary) Burns. He graduated William E. Grady Technical High School in 1972 and was soon after drafted into the US Military. Dedicated to the US Navy, Mike served as a machine mate on the USS Gurke and USS South Carolina. Mike became a plankowner when the USS Carolina was placed in commission in 1974.

This led to a 40-year career as an operating engineer for Local 94 within various buildings owned by Rudin Management.

Michael was an avid fan of 50's doo wop music, sitting on his porch smoking his cigars, and enjoyed an occasional game of golf.

Michael left this earth as a loving and doting husband to Hope E. Burns (Woodring), his wife of 27 years. They lived in Saddle Brook, NJ for 20 years before retiring to Magnolia, Delaware.

Michael was a loving and supportive father and grandfather. He is survived by his two children: Son, Michael J. Burns, 46, and daughter Vincenza Cucuzza (Robert), 42. He will be a beautiful angel to his four grandchildren: Connor and Caden Burns as well as Thomas and Olivia Cucuzza.

He is also survived by his three sisters: Patricia Fox (Thomas), Eileen Contarino, and Kathleen Burns in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Additionally, he is survived by Elizabeth Calise (Vincent), whom he considered a sister and Gwendolyn Friedman (Wayne) whom he treated like a daughter.
