As Mayor of Tyrone in the early 60's, David was instrumental in bringing city water, natural gas, paved streets and street signs to the community. Even as he worked as an executive for Terminal Transport, David, in partnership with Alton Brown, developed two perpetual care cemeteries in Fayette County. He also owned a successful construction company Durabuilt Construction. This company built homes in Tyrone and surrounding communities.
Remaining active during the Covid19 pandemic, David read books and online articles concerning quantum physics and quantum mechanics. David easily read two books a week during retirement, but had been an avid reader all his life. He enjoyed playing violin with a small community classical orchestra during his time in the Kansas City, MO, area. During one performance, David was extremely amused when his violin bow hair escaped from the frog of the bow and opened up like a fountain of hair. The audience loved it. While in the Kansas City area, David and Margaret performed with The Silver Strings Orchestra, primarily composed of senior citizens. David and Margaret were considered the babies of the group. They performed as often as possible at nursing homes, retirement centers, senior citizens' groups and the like. While living in Fayetteville, GA, David and Margaret played music at least weekly with a Jamaican classical violinist and his many musical relatives. While living in Bloomington, IN, David and Margaret performed and practiced with three different dulcimer orchestras, but they played mandolin or violin. His favorite hobby was playing violin, mandolin and piano and writing musical arrangements for a computer music software he and Margaret used for backup music when they played. He also enjoyed drawing, watercolor painting, reading, and attending concerts and music festivals and touring museums during his travels.
