Micah Rand Phillips, 60, died at home Thursday after a lengthy illness. Micah was born in Huntsville, the son of James and Estelle Phillips, and grew up in Owens Cross Roads. He spent the last 37 years creating a home in New Hope for his wife and two children.


Micah graduated from New Hope High School in 1965 and he attended the University of Montevallo after returning home from Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Army, as specialist 4th class and worked as a chemical repairman. While in Vietnam, he was stationed briefly at Xuan Loc but spent most of his time in Chu Lai. After leaving school, he worked as a machinist and later became assistant plant manager at Teledyne Firth Sterling in Grant. He spent the last 20 years working at Burleson Pool as a construction supervisor.


He was preceded in death by his father, James Phillips; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hollie and Lila Pritchett.


Micah is survived by his family who loved and adored him because he gave so much of his life providing loving support to them. Survivors include, Melvina Pritchett Phillips, his wife of 41 years; daughter, Hollie Michele Stewart of New Hope; son, Martin Russell Phillips of Madison; grandson, Rand Stewart of New Hope; mother, Estelle Phillips of Owens Cross Roads; sister, Geraldine "Sissy" Burleson and husband, Benny, of Owens Cross Roads; brother, Greg Phillips and wife, Regina, of Owens Cross Roads; and a very special brother and sister-in-law, David and Diane Boyd of New Hope. Micah is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nephew and great-nieces.


Visitation with the family will be today at New Hope Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Walker Cemetery in Marshall County. Ministers will be Benny Burleson, Clifton Mann and Harold Kelly.
