Barbara J. Nelson Crangle, 91, life resident of Rock Island, IL, before moving to Moline in 2003, passed away Monday March 14, 2022 at Friendship Manor-Silver Cross, Rock Island.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorial visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island.

Barbara was born May 31, 1930 in Rock Island, a daughter of Donald A. and Dorothy Williamson Wangelin. She graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Augustana College.

Barbara married Kenneth H. Nelson on October 2, 1949 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1984. She then married Rev. James C. Crangle on May 20, 1989 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2016.

Barbara was a member of 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. She was an elder emeritus, Co-chair of the Library Committee, served as Secretary of the Official Board, was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship, and many committees. She played a major role in the writing of "A Light on the Hill", a book on the church's history.

Barbara was an avid traveler, visiting all fifty states and many world destinations, with a special love for waterfalls and mountains. A favorite vacation destination was Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Combining her interest in photography with her travels, she gave slide programs for churches and community groups, and also created photo note cards.

She served on the board of the Arbor Village Homeowner's Association and was the editor of the "Village Grapevine", a neighborhood newsletter. She enjoyed writing and spent several years completing her life story. She cherished her family and was grateful for the love, respect and concern they showed her in so many ways.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Doug (Marcia) Nelson, Rock Island; daughter and son-in-law, Kathi (Jeff) Barnes, Rock Island; stepdaughter, Barbara Dean, Monmouth, IL; grandchildren, Andy (Kelly) Nelson, Matt Nelson, Dan Barnes (Stephanie Yacono) , Eric (Keila) Barnes and Karen Barnes (Adam Olaby) ; five great grandchildren; sister, Nan Myers, Bonita, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; and her brother, John G. Wangelin, Sr.
