Cathy Nelson, 77, of Hart, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, in Hart. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Hart with Dr. Gene Meacham officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Viewing will be on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Cathy was born on December 25, 1944, to Ernest and Ann (Taylor) Martin in Oak Grove, Louisiana. She married Stanley Nelson on May 20, 2000, in Little Rock, Arkansas and has been a resident of Hart since 2000. Prior to Hart, Cathy lived in Hereford from 1985-2000. Cathy worked at Hereford State Bank in the mortgage loan department and for Castro Memorial Hospital in the insurance department. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hart, Ladies Golf, Eastern Star, and AMBUCS in Hereford. Cathy enjoyed organizing the booths and vendors for the Castro County Harvest Days, golfing, and fishing. She was an excellent cook with red velvet cake and homemade jelly as specialties. Cathy loved her family and time spent with her grandchildren watching their ballgames. She was a resilient and loving woman, wife, mother, and granny.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband, Stanley Nelson of Hart, Texas; children, Laura Laurent and husband John of Clovis, New Mexico, Tommy Preston and wife Kaysi of White Deer, Texas, Scott Nelson and wife Katy of Wichita, Kansas, Lisa Morgan and husband Bruce of Ft. Worth, Texas, Laura Nelson of Austin, Texas, and Leslie Nelson of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Lissandra Ramos, Paige Preston, Riggan Preston, Meggan Gonzales and husband Morgan, Ashley Preston, Kade Preston, Jacob Nelson and wife Megan, Hanna Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Leah Nelson, Abi Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Lauren Morgan, and Matthew Morgan; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Kooper Preston, brother Buddy Martin, and sister Donna Stahl.
