Granada Hills Student Slain Amid Mystery
GRANADA HILLS — The 16-year-old Granada Hills High School -student shot to death in his mother's bedroom was described by school spokesmen as "a boy well-liked by his friends and associates" and as a student earning excellent grades.
Gary Rocha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rocha of 13150 Sesnon Blvd., was shot in the head twice according to an autopsy report released Wednesday.
Police said young Rocha was last teen alive by school friends who dropped him at his hilltop home near the Knollwood Country Club at 3:30 pm Tuesday.
They theorized that the youth surprised a burglar within the home.
No one in the family was in the isolated home when young Rocha returned from classes Tuesday, officers said.
His father is a merchant seaman currently on a voyage and his mother is employed at a Canoga Park department store.
A sister, Michele 12, was staying at a friend's home for the afternoon.
The youth's body was early Tuesday night Mrs. Rocha and the victim's sister returned home.
A gun has not been found, according to Lt. John Kauzor of Devonshire police division. The young student was lying on his back to the with two small caliber bullets -In the top of his skull.
A B-11 student at the school, Rocha was an avid surfer and also held a part time job.
Boys Vice Principal Robert Myers said "He was highly rated by all his teachers".

Former S P. youth dies
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday for Gary Rocha, 16, at Utter McKinley Mortuary Chapel, 11071 Columbus Ave., Mission Hills.
Mr. Rocha a native of San Pedro was apparently killed Tuesday evening by a burglar who police believe was surprised in the Rocha home at 13150 Balboa Ave. in Granada Hills.
He was an 11th grade student at Granada Hills High School.
He leaves his mother Jennie, and his father, Victor; a sister, Michele; his grandmother, Modesta Arostegui of San Pedro; his grandfather, John Lampo of Torrance; aunts and uncles, Angie and Primo Geordenengo, Rolling Hills Estates; Juanita and Wodrow Moore, San Pedro, and Mary and Edward Morawey of Granada Hills.
Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro with the Rev. Ron Roberts officiating.
