Larry attended Mims High School in McCormick, SC. He was a US Army Veteran and worked for the School Board of Howard County in Washington, DC before his retirement.

His sister, Gail Ross of Greenwood, SC. His Aunts; Addie Ruth White and Ola Mae Dansby both of Atlanta, GA, Annie Sue Tucker and Nelly Wary both of Columbia, SC.
