He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Fay (Basham) Rodgers and son Jason Rodgers of Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Dawn E. Rodgers; sons and daughters-in-laws, Tome and Martha Rodgers of Greenville, Texas, Aaron Rodgers of Greenville, Texas, Anthony and Laura Rodgers of Poteau, Oklahoma; step-daughters Laurie and husband Dana Grier of York, Pennsylvania and Jodi Rimmey of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania and nine beautiful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
After receiving his PhD in economics at the University of Virginia, Jim became a professor of economics at Penn State University, holding the position of department chair and full professor until retirement as professor emeritus. He published numerous papers in major economic journals such as the American Economic Review and Quarterly Journal of Economics.
Besides his work as professor, Jim served as an economic expert in state and federal courts in calculating damages in personal injury litigation. He was a founding member of National Association of Forensic Economics (NAFE) in 1986 and served as president and executive director of NAFE. Jim also authored numerous papers in forensic economics journals and books and received the highest service awards from NAFE and the American Academy of Economics conferences over his lifetime.
He was a mentor to many.
He enjoyed spending his winter months in Florida, playing shuffleboard and poker with his many friends, was an avid Star Wars fan and enjoyed gardening with many flowers at his homes in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and Brooksville, Florida.
He had a special personality, was loved by everyone, and admired by his colleagues.
A memorial will be determined at a later date. Interment will be at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
