After graduating from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in 1963, John was drafted into the US Army where he served in the Vietnam War. When he returned home from the war, he entered into an on-the-job hospital training program to become a Respiratory Therapist. In 1987, he was #816 to obtain a Professional License to Practice Respiratory Therapy in the State of GA.
n July 1988, John chose to transition from Respiratory into Cardiology and worked as an Electrocardiographic Tech at St. Joseph's Hospital until he retired from healthcare. His father, Garfield, taught him the value of hard work, and instilled in him "you're not a McCreary if you don't know how to work!" This quote was one that drove him to continue working well after his retirement, so he spent his final working years employed at Delta Airlines. Over the years, John cultivated many friendships with coworkers due to his charming personality that often included making people blush with his electric smile, big gifts from his giving heart, and lots of laughs with his trash talking.
On February 18, 2022, John McCreary made his final transition into his eternal life with the Lord. He was preceded in death by Garfield McCreary (father), Nellie Mae McCreary (mother), James "Jimmy" McCreary (brother), Larry McCreary (brother), Robert "Bobby" McCreary (brother), Catherine Ward (sister), Linda Esther Diana McCreary (sister), and Lynette Simms (ex-wife).
