James Allen Payne, 91, of Chattanooga, formerly of South Pittsburg, died at his home Friday, March 11, 2022.
He graduated from South Pittsburg High School and served in the US Air Force after WWII. He worked at Dupont for 42 years. He taught Sunday School at Hickory Valley Baptist Church and has been an active member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. Jim loved to pick guitar with friends and listen to country music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Payne and Vesta Coffey Payne; brother, William Payne; sisters, Virginia Hargrove, Dorothy Hicks, and Gladys Frye.
He is survived by his wife, June Sexton Payne; daughters, Susan (Phillip) Robinson of Lascassas, TN, Karen Sledge of Murfreesboro, TN, Jennifer (Bill) Hepler of Athens, GA, and Sara Payne of Scottsboro, AZ; grandchildren, Nathaniel Robinson, Andrew Robinson, Susanna Schmidt, Caitlin Yalamanchili, and Lauren Yadon; brother, Robert Payne of Huntsville, AL, 9 great grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Woodland Park Baptist Church, 6735 Standifer Gap Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421, Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10:30am followed by the funeral service at 12pm. Rev. Bruce Daugherty officiating.
