Mitchell D. Simpson, 73, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Mitchell was born on December 13, 1948, in Tucson, Arizona, the son of Ben and Doris Simpson. He was formerly married to Deborah Kay Cook, who survives him.

He is also survived by his three children, Christopher (Kaysha) Simpson of Lincoln, Illinois, Liberty Mroczek of South Bend, Indiana, and Megan (Jacob) Chandler of South Bend, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, Caelum, Eowyn, David, Cieran, Lydia, Josette, and Tobias.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his one sibling, Scott Simpson.

Mitch served as a minister in the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ for 30[?] years at churches in Alexandria, Kentucky; Logansport, Indiana; Gary, Indiana; Mishawaka, Indiana; and Fowler, Indiana. He also served as an English and writing professor first at Purdue University and then at Lincoln Christian University for more than a decade. He enjoyed reading and writing, TV and movies, and spending time with family, friends, and numerous cats and dogs over the years. He was a beloved minister and teacher with a warm and generous laugh.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Palmer Funeral Homes - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN with visitation from 1 - 3pm.
